Why do you need Portable appliance testing?
- As an employer or landlord, you are required under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and Health and Safety Work Act 1974 to provide a safe working environment with regards to all electrical equipment and systems.
- Regular PAT tests in rental properties adhere to The Housing Act 2004.
- PAT tests discover all plugs that do not meet Plugs and Sockets Regulations 1994
- Testing helps you comply with The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
- Records can be used as evidence showing compliance with Electrical Safety at Work Regulations 1989
- Regular testing ensures safety to staff and the public and complies with the Electrical Equipment (safety) Regulations 2016.
- Pre-tenancy PAT tests help the landlord comply with The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s guidance.
What will be included on the test?
- Visual Inspection of appliance, flex and plug top – visual signs of overheating or damage.
- Interior inspection – opening of the plug top to inspect fuse and connections. Tightening of wires if required.
- Electrical tests – appliance completes Earth Continuity Test (Class 1 appliance) and Insulation Resistance Test (Class 1 & 2 appliance).
- Labelling – Pass or Fail label fixed to appliance along with test date, re-test date and appliance ID.
- Recording – Detailed records provided for each appliance for an inventory summary. All records will be sent electronically but hard copies can be provided upon request.
- All labels are provided for appliances tested.
- Repairs and re-testing on appliances after repair.
- Re-testing notification.
